Chugging in like a juggernaut with a payload of social commentary, this is KILL, THE ICON! with their new single, Protect The Brand. The track is a robust, guitar-led, foot-tapper which has an infectious grip, delivering a pointed vocal with satisfying clarity. Used by the band as their set-closer, the track tackles the concept of power structures and is loosely themed around David Fincher’s film, Fight Club.
As the band explain "The song is viewed through the lens of overworked and underpaid office worker who is tasked with mind-numbing, repetitive jobs until he finally engineers his own sacking. The Worker stumbles through a crisis of realization, as he starts to question the purpose of work within a capitalist framework."
Formed in London (UK) just a few years ago, KILL, THE ICON! are an anti-fascist protest trio, aiming to uphold the fine tradition of the UK punk scene. By all accounts they have been gathering a fair amount of support both at home (including my old friend John Kennedy at Radio X) and abroad. Now, having just signed to Blaggers Records, the future looks promising. In May, the band release their debut EP 'Your Anger Is Rational'. Certainly a band to keep an eye on.
