On top of some family dramas, over the last week, I have also finally succumbed to Covid. That's resulted in a slight delay with me posting about this stonking release by The Underground Youth. The single is called I Thought I Understood and it is a finely constructed song with an astonishingly dreamy guitar line and some deeply resonating vocals. The approach is gentle and thoughtful, but through all that gliding fretwork, the words provide a brutal honesty. The recording has that feel of a timeless classic which deserves to appeal across the generations.
The track is taken from the Manchester-born, Berlin-based group's eleventh studio album Nostalgia’s Glass, which is scheduled for release in August. The Underground Youth started in 2008 as the creative project of Craig Dyer and they currently consist of Craig (Vocals/Guitar), Olya Dyer (Drums), Leonard Kaage (Guitar/Producer) and Samira Zahidi (Bass).
