Nanzhen Yang - Associative Memory Errors

From time to time, I enjoy listening to recordings based around field recordings. It can be refreshing to put aside the usual musical expectations and surround yourself with another person's environment. Nanzhen Yang has created such a track with Associative Memory Errors, which was released last year as part of the various artists compilation 5 by the label Chinabot. Associative Memory Errors features a montage of recordings from Nanzhen Yang's homeland of Beijing, China. Now based in London, the artist explains "after many years of not being back most of my memories about Beijing have been blurred, the fielding recording memories of the real past but for now I can only use them to tell a functional story. That is also the inspiration for the track's name". I really love the concept and certainly the recording provides a short but intriguing audio experience.

The full 12-track compilation celebrates five years of the experimental music label Chinabot and also features contributions from acts such as Jaeho Hwang, Sabiwa, Sarah Haras, Ayankoko, JPN Kasai and Pal Hwang Dan, Papaphilia, Chooc Ly and more. Please do check it out.
