Zeropolis - Social Jet Lag

From the cannon of the wonderful AnalogueTrash label, this is Zeropolis with an excellent tune called Social Jet Lag. For me, the delight comes from hearing something with a thumping, dark, electronic core that is enriched with snarling post-punk vocals and sparky guitars. Everything combines sublimely into a contemporary song with a vintage, but not overtly nostalgic feel. This is one which the more mature music fans might steal from the collections of their ear-to-the-ground, young offspring.

The band explain that “Lyrically, the song delves into the lives of individuals who dream of upward social mobility so intensely that it consumes them, ultimately leading to constant dissatisfaction,” and that “It sheds light on a fascinating paradox, where people strive to fit into a group that rejects them, oblivious to the fact that they are, in essence, belittling their own social class. The song ultimately questions the true sources of happiness and fulfilment in life, in a complex interplay between aspiration, identity, and the yearning for acceptance.”

Formed in 2018, Zeropolis are Gigi and Coco, two French exiles who met in London through the DIY punk scene. Social Jet Lag is taken from their debut album 1000 Walls. Go check them out!
