Toya Delazy's Bambelela is one of those rare new releases which actually made me stop and go "whoa!", as it really is something quite different. The track is a explosive concoction of right-up-in-your-face Zulu vocals, drum and bass, techno, rave and everything else you can throw into a three minute sonic frolic. Toya is a Zulu princess, great grand daughter of Princess Magogo and she offers an electrifying presence on the recording which easily equals all the firepower emitting from the electronic elements. A lesser performer could be swamped by the hard-hitting instrumentation, but Toya has an uncanny ability to almost challenge it to match her majesty. Bambelela is a triumph of a song.
