AUS!Funkt are a favourite on my blog, their output is constantly interesting and hard to ignore, setting them aside from a lot of acts out there. Their new five track EP That's a Fact lands just in time to entertain families as they ponder the dropping needles from the festive tree. The opening track gives the EP its title, That's a Fact and indeed (pause for comedic effect) that's a fact. The song is a rocking, good bop with squelchy synths and the band's trademark deadpan vocals. In the middle, there's some lovely deep bass sounds,  before it launches everyone back onto the dancefloor. As an opener, it successfully pulls you into the AUS!Funkt realm. You will also find a hyper-concise RADIOactive EDT version of the track on the EP.
The track Whispering and Shouting is presented in a couple of versions, both featuring Маша. One is a fully-fledged disco-post-punk mix (should that be post-punk-disco or maybe even post-disco-punk?) incorporating a more relaxed feel with whispered vocals and meandering guitars, but still with a robust groove and pounding bass line. The other version, Whispering and Shouting [A!F SpaceDiscoDub], is a little more experimental and expansive, a sort of cosmic dub with some lovely percussive touches and a general feeling that acid house is trying to break into the chill-out zone. A fun version that the band should try more often.
The System's in Place features all the hallmarks of the band's usual sound, but with a slight spy theme feel and some light-hearted percussive details which simply add to the party. Not quite as frenetic, but the track shuffles along well with some space-age synths and appears more thoughtful with words that touch on "themes of existentialism, societal disillusionment, and the search for authenticity in an increasingly artificial world".

The overall package provides another strong addition to the band's repertoire and I look forward to hearing more from them in 2024.
