The first point to comment on is that the cover for Dick Dudley's EP is rather dull. I presume that is intentional, a sort of magnolia for the masses approach? Anyway, let's gloss over it and talk about the music. Cat is taken from the band's Dog Park EP and it is a lyrically witty song about....a cat. No surprise there! Or is there? Most songs about cats tend not to be about cats, don't they? However, this one *is* about the feline species and has instantly become my third favourite song about a cat.
Dick Dudley claim to be "potentially the biggest neopost-not-punk band in the hemisphere". That's fine, I can't argue with that - I am potentially the best music critic in the cul-de-sac. Mind you, my neighbour, Lady K, can often cut down a tune with a sanguine flick of her quill.
Amusingly, Dick Dudley almost forgot to release this collection of tunes, the tracks on the EP were recorded almost 2 years ago after they had been written between lockdowns & time together at the Dog Park studios. Since then, the band members seem to have ambled off in differing directions. Quite suitably, that's not unlike cat-like behaviour, if you ask me? Let's hope they return again soon.
Anyway, paws and have a listen to Cat.
