Iranian-German Pari Eskandari's Chador is another release which really works best when you experience the song through the video. The music and visuals hold a powerful message about the situation for women in Iran and commemorates the anniversary of the death of 22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini. She died whilst in custody in Tehran, having been arrested and accused of violating strict dress code laws.
Released via Tricky’s (Massive Attack) False Idols label, Chador explores the struggles of women living in Iran. The video depicts a female initiation ritual that is designed, says Pari, ‘to elevate the women from the ordinary to the sublime’, and is expressed through dance. ‘This piece,’ she continues ‘is for the women in Iran who risk their lives every day.’
Chador is a strong message, eloquently presented.
