Assassun - CPR

With Berlin-based, one-man synth-punk Assassun's new release, CPR, it is a delight to hear the influence of Fad Gadget re-surfacing in the music of today. The track uses synths with a sublime sound quality, doing exactly what synths should do, making sounds which would not otherwise exist. The lyrics and vocals also shadow the instrumentation to good effect with their slightly slithering, insect-like delivery.

About the song Assassun says "'CPR' was created in a moment of paralysis, trying to relate the big picture that is threatening to collapse with one's own, devastatingly insignificant existence. It is incomprehensible to me how quickly humanity manages to ruin its own planet because envy, resentment and the inability to change one's habits are stronger than creating a safer world for future generations. Instead of using humanity's achievements for a good purpose, we only harm ourselves. This is difficult to bear, and sometimes I fear that one unfavorable event could set in motion a chain of events that leads us all to disaster. Is it already too late for resuscitation?”

That's another gloomy perspective on the world today, but I suppose some solace can be found in the knowledge that the worst situations can often lead to a creative upturn. That's what you get with CPR.
