The chiming piano provides a terrific canvas as Sofi Gev's voice and the orchestral elements interplay to create an expressive collage of textures and emotions.

You have to reach into a storm within yourself and find a lone ship of meaning, from which to survey the chaos. You will inevitably burn your hand sifting through the mistakes and traumas of your past, your limitations and moral failings. It is painful and terrifying. But the alternative? Chaos and detritus with no beauty, no meaning. This song explores these themes."
The solo project of American indie pop artist, Hannah Lovelady, Sofi Gev's songwriting began in her childhood. After starting with piano lessons, she went on to play the French horn in the school band. Amusingly, she honed her sense of melody by singing the words of recipes from cookbooks, whilst her father accompanied her on acoustic guitar. Quite a kooky approach, you might say?
Together, Never Break is a highly endearing recording and a great release to start with in 2024.
