Just out is The Sane by post-punk trio Nrvs. The single is a sedimentary tale about the process of modern day courtship, naturally expressed from their joyfully pessimistic viewpoint. They say this one is "about the dreary world of mechanised hooking up, industrialised mating. When did it get weird to try to meet somebody not on an app? When did we actually become all the same?".
Although slightly more deranged and disengaged in places, the recording could easily sit on an early Blur album. Weirdly, it has that opposing polar ability to sound both disinterested and energised at the same time. That, I suppose, works well with the concept of the swipe, click and collect dating industry? There's certainly enough of a chorus to sweep you off your feet and carry you up to the bed chamber.
Nrvs say they are "shaping a nightmare-normal vision of the near future, that you can dance to”. Personally, for me, that does not even require music, but this is handy to have in your back pocket.
