The intro to Egyptian/American singer Charls Ava's latest release, Idol, slightly wrongfoots the listener. It opens with all the feel of a string-plucking, world music instrumental, before the dramatic synth bass clears the way to a more traditional styled song. Some of that kooky angle in instrumentation does remain, but the real magic is in the vocal. From the very first line it really captures your ear, the tone and character is sublime. It does slip away from a main lyric towards the end, but even the vocalisations help pull the elements together to round off a rather delightful recording.
Idol is a song about the "push and pull of human emotions as they relate to relationships in the midst of infatuation". The track expresses the concept rather well, give it a listen!
