I am not generally a massive fan of vocalisations within recordings which are fundamentally instrumental, but Jenny Thiele's vocal element provides a wonderfully uplifting feel to Prototype by Cologne-based producer and musician Millhope (aka Thomas Mühlhoff). The instrumentation itself morphs delightfully between vintage electronica and more robust rock tones, but always holding back from stepping too far away from those sliding synths. That charming vocal motif sits cloudlike above all the intricate activity below, making Prototype a very cool recording.
