Initially released as a video only, 'Pluck It' by Toronto post-industrial groove-punk duo, Forming, is a rampant, tour-de-force of a single. In some ways, it is reminiscent of early Fad Gadget, having a no-nonsense, direct-to-the-ear electronic engine throbbing away whilst a somewhat dystopian vocal adds shadow to the clean instrumental lines. Sounding like an avant-garde hybrid of techno and post-punk electro, while sonically edging towards brutalism, the single is still a refreshing listen.
The video, created in-house by band member Danny Alexander, is a visual delight in its own right. Like an art-house collage of images, the black and white oddity works brilliantly with the audio.
