Kalte Steine - Drowning

Oh, my god! After weeks of pure sunshine and complete dryness, today the heavens have opened and I have been physically battling water flooding the back garden. So, rather apt then that Leipzig’s Kalte Steine arrive with “Drowning”.

An oddly gentle gothic production, with very sparse and simple backing beneath almost robotic vocals, sung in English. There’s no frantic flailing here; it’s not so much anguished as an acceptance of fate. Darkwave from Germany’s gothic heart, a city synonymous with black-clad melancholy.

The track stays remarkably calm while everything sinks around it - a case of going with the flow, even when the flow is decidedly against you. Now, I had better get back to my broom before the next wave of rain starts. Enjoy!
