Aaaah, Swedish pop — as irresistible as a plateful of meatballs and every bit as stylish as an Arne Jacobsen chair. Cedra’s ‘Breakaway’ is polished pop from the top drawer, with a production that hits the mark from its opening note right through to the finish.
Hailing from Uppsala (that's in Sweden, folks - the 4th largest city), Cedra represents a new generation of artists refusing to be boxed in by borders, whether geographical or musical. With vocal talent, Swedish pop know-how, Lebanese roots and ambitions that stretch well beyond Scandinavia, she certainly has places to go — and if this is the starting point, I suspect the breakaway will take her far beyond the toxic people that she sings about in this slick tune.
