Red tape put to tape, sums up this track. There’s something deliciously cruel about an insurance form becoming an interrogation, and Utrecht’s Empty Habits make the most of it on 'Life Insurance'. Restless guitars and post-hardcore tension propel a song about the pains of navigating officialdom and being forced to recall a messy adolescence for the sake of a tick box exercise.
“Dropdowns hiding dropdowns” neatly captures the bureaucratic nightmare, while the lyrics’ cheery assurances about privacy make the whole affair wonderfully familiar. Recorded largely live, it retains a raw, impatient energy and finds the band on good form (see what I did there?).
