Dynasora - La Maison des fous

Hooray! Another experimental wonder has arrived - I always enjoy hearing something completely different from the norm. This time it is a track called 'La Maison des fous' from Dynasora, a song with a distinctly French twist on electro and a delicious disregard for conventional musical boundaries.

'La Maison des fous' (which roughly translates as 'The House of The Mad' - as in 'The Madhouse' or more appropriately 'The Asylum') is difficult to pigeonhole, which is half the fun. A spiky accordion, bursts of brass and electronic textures create a surreal, offbeat soundscape, while the vibrantly original vocal seems to follow its own expressive path.

Beneath the musical eccentricity lies a darker subject: psychiatric confinement and the distress of being trapped somewhere against your will. The lyrics (sung in French) paint a chilling picture of sterile corridors, shadows and enforced conformity, culminating in the unsettling question of whether swallowing the pills will finally make you “normal”.

Accompanied by a stylish music video, this is gloriously unconventional stuff: like an avant-garde cabaret of weirdness, and entirely its own beast. One piece of advice - don't take the pill if it makes you normal.
